Sydney has a vibrant Acadian and Francophone community. The Étoile de l'Acadie Community Centre offers cultural, educational, and social programming in French. Housed in the same building, the Étoile de l'Acadie School Centre contributes to the transmission of the French language and the development of Acadian identity among youth.

Sydney is also home to Cape Breton University and the Canadian Coast Guard College. These institutions, along with the arrival of new Francophone residents and immigrants, enrich the diversity and strengthen the vitality of the community.
