Chezzetcook

Located about thirty kilometers east of Halifax on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean, Chezzetcook is a historic Acadian community. Founded in the 18th century by Acadian families who returned from exile after the Great Upheaval, it has successfully preserved its cultural heritage while evolving near the provincial capital.

The region is distinguished by its coastal landscapes, beaches, salt marshes, trails, and natural spaces. Water sports, hiking, cycling, and wildlife viewing play a major role here. Nearby, you will find Martinique Beach Provincial Park, home to Nova Scotia's longest sandy beach, as well as Conrad’s Beach and Lawrencetown Beach.

The Acadian Museum of Chezzetcook tells the story of the Acadian families who have settled in the region for over two centuries. It highlights their traditions, way of life, and resilience. Old houses, the historic church, Acadian cemeteries, and heritage sites also bear witness to the richness of this community.

The Francophonie remains vibrant here thanks to organizations and institutions such as L’Acadie de Chezzetcook, the Acadian Museum of Chezzetcook, and the CSAP’s École des Beaux-Marais. Their community and intergenerational activities help keep the French language alive and pass on Acadian culture to new generations.
